Mike Coupe held the position of CEO Chief Executive for Sainsbury’s plc from 2014–-2020. Before retiring he is credited for with moving the company away from a focus on developing large stores to online and convenience shopping, overseeing the acquisition of Argos and the Nectar loyalty scheme.

Mike joined Sainsbury’s in 2004 as Commercial Director. He joined the plc board in 2006 and was appointed responsible for online operations, marketing, and trading in 2010.

Mike was director of Covid-19 testing at England’s Test and Trace agency from September through to December 2020 and was appointed as a non-executive director on the board of NHS England from January 2021. In addition, he chairs Oak Furnitureland, New Look and Harding Retail.
